Ashley is a freelance photographer and videographer specializing in dance and theatre for the past 25 years and is highly regarded in the Australian arts community. He is represented in numerous collection including the Fuji ACMP National Collection and Dance Collection of the National Library. 

Ashley has exhibited extensively, including exhibiting in the Australian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. He was photographer for the best-selling book Girlosophy 2, edited by Anthea Paul. Ashley’s photographic documentation of Antony Gormley’s Inside Australia Sculpture Project for the Perth International Arts Festival was published by Thames& Hudson in the UK. 

Ashley created the visuals for the The Drover’s Wives for the Perth International Arts Festival for 2006 and was awarded for 'Dance Film/ Technology within Dance' at the Ausdance WA Dance Awards 2006, in 2007 awarded for his visual design for STEPS Youth Dance Company's ‘dash’ and recently for the 2011 West Australian Dance Awards for Services to Dance. Recent credits include a large-scale visual design for Danielle Micich Overexposed at Perth’s State Theatre Centre in 2014. In collaboration with Director Sally Richardson Ashley has created dance films Standing Bird, Standing Bird 2 & The Drover’s Wives that have been showcased nationally and internationally. He has recently worked with the new West Australian state dance company Co:3, and created a number of visual designs for Cadi McCarthy for Buzz Dance Theatre and Catapult Dance.
